Opening the season at brut with her new piece Universal Dancer, choreographer and performer Doris Uhlich turns the theatre space into the epicentre of an expanding movement. In a world where we have ingrained pragmatism and efficiency, she looks for opulence and idealism, shared zeitgeist and an elimination of borders. Universal Dancer asks questions like how can a solo expand, how can a small movement grow big, and what kind of force is needed to set such a movement in motion? To increase her own strength and to awake herself and the whole world with her, Doris Uhlich had a machine built. In preparation of her endeavour to flood the stage with energy and to start a wave Doris Uhlich has delved into techno culture. Techno, as in: a collective act of dancing that goes far beyond the temporal and spatial dimensions of a conventional party, as the music energetically expands and turns movement into a flowing current.
Doris Uhlich is among Austria’s most renowned contemporary choreographers. Her works have been presented at brut numerous times and also tour internationally. Doris Uhlich and her guests call for a Universal Rave in the brut bar right after the performance on 27 September. Rave, as in: rage, romanticise, riot and rhapsodise! Universal Dancers, dance the night away! Dance the dark away! Admission free!

I can dance but I can’t cook
Doris Uhlich can dance, but she cannot cook. When it comes to the art of cooking, she is an utter amateur. So, instead of presenting her dancing skills or manning the turntables, she turns the tables and asks her audience for culinary advice. Until before Christmas, anyone has the chance to invite Doris Uhlich to their home and teach her how to cook. Together with the dancer, you will cook your favourite dishes and reveal recipes and tricks. Over the shared meal, Doris Uhlich will answer all the burning questions you have been wanting to ask for ages. She will talk about projects and visions and about anything else that might end up on her plate. Also, she will be responsible for the musical background of the event and pop the corks in celebration of this culinary art experience. To your hearths, get set, go!
