Wirklichkeitsbilder mit Hans-Thies Lehmann & Helmut Lethen
Gespräch
It is partly because of the works of performance collective She She Pop that the “Invasion of Reality” has been conjured up in contemporary theatre for quite a few years now. Authenticity, documentation and reality on stage are considered an antidote to the presumed crisis of representation in theatre. Theatrologist Hans-Thies Lehmann and cultural scholar Helmut Lethen talk about all this.
Helmut Lethen is head of the International Research Centre for Cultural Studies in Vienna. He was awarded the Non-Fiction Prize at the Leipzig Book Fair for his latest book, Der Schatten des Fotografen. Bilder und ihre Wirklichkeit (The Photographer’s Shadow. Images and Their Reality). Until his retirement, Hans-Thies Lehmann was a professor for theatre studies in Frankfurt and made considerable contributions to the establishment of the study programme of Applied Theatre Studies at the University of Gießen. He has been sustainably influencing scholarly debates about contemporary forms of theatre ever since he published his famous work Postdramatic Theatre.
