In the production Q&A by artist Daniel Kok from Singapore, performance finally becomes consumer friendly. From the first idea to the finished product, Q&A submits to the expectations of the audience. After Daniel Kok’s fieldwork by online survey, at the beginning of the piece the performer introduces a basic restructuring of the choreographic process: to this end, he asks “What do you want to see?“ With more say than ever before, the audience clarifies once and for all why they sit in the theatre and what they want to see.
Always with a view to the logics of economy, clearly placing the wishes and needs of consumers in the foreground, Daniel Kok approaches the relationship between artist and audience on the basis of economic criteria. Pursuing the aim of a perfect performance according to everybody’s wishes he unveils the whims of democracy and consumer culture and, in the end, allows art to triumph over economic reasoning.
