Deborah Hazler/Nanina Kotlowski/Kerstin Olivia Schellander - offnature

“Deborah Hazler, Nanina Kotlowski, and Kerstin Olivia Schellander let naked skin become their costume in offnature. In intimate surroundings, the female body mutates into an artwork and versatile instrument.” Kurier

In offnature, artists Deborah Hazler, Nanina Kotlowski, and Kerstin Olivia Schellander will be following the tracks of the grotesque body. Based on the media’s sexualisation of the human body, where disgust and lust are often in close proximity, the performers lead the audience through a perceptual house of mirrors that opens up a multitude of new perspectives of the body. The (im)possibility of representing certain body parts as distinct, or separating them from their sexual connotation will be examined. Spectacular exposure is not in the foreground, but instead they aspire to allow the audience to gain a more immediate view of the body. An intimate spectacle that works toward the desexualisation of the body and circles around the question of whether it can ever be free from desire and disgust.
