Legends & Rumours
“A superb theatrical trinity of situational comedy, deception and a hopelessness learned from Samuel Beckett.” Tages Anzeiger Zürich
In Legends & Rumours the performance trio of Maria Jerez, Phil Hayes and Thomas Kasebacher ask the all-important question for life and art: What makes a trivial instant into a great moment, a legend or even a myth? Do the mechanisms for creating a legend also apply to acts of destruction and demolition?
Legends & Rumours treats these questions with discrete irony, tragic absurdity and an unerring sense of timing. In an elaborate game a seemingly trivial situation is repeatedly varied and dissected anew until it finally topples into the legendary, the unparalleled and transcendent. The three performance artists cunningly probe how stories consolidate into legends and how much ingenuity and rumours are needed for it. They ascribe fictional stories to everyday occurrences until a paradoxical, backward-looking chain reaction occurs that, in the end, has only one escape: the performance itself must become legendary.
Legends & Rumours brings three very different artists together on stage: performer, director and musician Phil Hayes from Zurich, performer Maria Jerez from Madrid, and Thomas Kasebacher from Vienna who has been seen many time in brut as a performer with the notfoundyet company. www.philhayes.ch
