Indigenous is an insisting and flashing rhythm in two acts, an incantation, a primitive fever, a moment of ecstasy. Three performers move through an unearthly empty, gloomy club space, a darkness traversed by lurid beams of light. Two live musicians accompany them with rhythmically pulsing music. The athletic gestures and ecstatic dances symbolise the denseness and incantatory character of the music and create a mythic aura before they dissolve into geometric forms. Indigenous grips its audience with gloom, tension and magic and strives to make the genuine visible through its distortion.

The performance collective BAROKTHEGREAT was founded in 2008 by musician Leila Gharib and dancer/choreographer Sonia Brunelli. They explore the mental roots of movement and physicality and the ritual function of music. http://barokthegreat.tumblr.com
