Wiener Festwochen

How perfectly can a made-up world be transformed into reality? Under de si is a happening, an exhibition and a theatrical installation, all rolled into one, that lets its visitors decide whether they want to embark on a labyrinthine course leading through an artwork composed of 20 stations or rather prefer to contemplate it from afar. The work offers an artful interweaving of substances, objects and bodies into one, autonomous universe. Quite intentionally, Under de si plays with comedy and tragedy, reality and fiction, exaggeration and understatement and, more generally, with perception and its limitations. The purpose does not lie in telling a story but in entering an open field where visitors can rediscover an entirely novel order of elements drawn from their personal world. They will encounter a congenial panopticon of obsessions that seems oddly familiar and decidedly strange at the same time.
The unusual international artists’ collective around Colombian artist Luis Garay and Diego Bianchi from Buenos Aires recently enjoyed great success at the Japanese festival Kyoto Experiment. With Under de si and supported by an ensemble of extraordinary talents specially brought together for this Viennese edition, they will participate in Wiener Festwochen for the very first time.
