The Beat Goes On
Acht Jahre nach seinem letzten Solo wagt sich Frans Poelstra einmal ohne seinen Künstlerzwilling Robert Steijn, mit dem er unter dem Pseudonym united sorry arbeitet, auf die Bühne. Begleitet wird er dabei von Sonny & Cher, deren titelgebender Hit The Beat Goes On als Ausgangspunkt der Performance dient. Poelstra kramt im Keller der Erinnerungen und begibt sich zurück ins Jahr 1967. An einem Tag in diesem Jahr hat er den Song als 13-Jähriger das erste Mal gehört: Gänsehaut-Feeling, Energie pur und die Kraft, nach vorne zu schauen, verbindet er mit dem Beat. Bis heute hat sich daran nichts geändert. Allerdings ist es an der Zeit, auszumisten, den Keller zu entrümpeln und die letzten 40 Jahre ans Tageslicht zu befördern.
The Beat Goes On bewegt sich zwischen glamourösem Rockkonzert, Tanzperformance, Stand-up-Comedy-Act und Erzählung. Ausgestattet mit Objekten aus Poelstras Keller und anderen Dingen, die der Künstler an den verschiedensten Orten aufgefunden hat, verwandelt sich das brut im Konzerthaus in ein Untergeschoss des Unterbewusstseins und Erinnerungsvermögens. Es darf leidenschaftlich in der Vergangenheit gekramt, in Erinnerungen geschwelgt oder durch die Gegenwart gestreift werden. Hauptsache, man bleibt ständig in Bewegung und frei nach Sonny & Cher dem Motto „Go for it!“ treu.

Eight years after his last solo, Frans Poelstra for once dares to brave the stage without his artist twin Robert Steijn, who he works with under the pseudonym united sorry. He is accompanied by Sonny & Cher, whose eponymous hit The Beat Goes On serves as a point of departure for the performance. Poelstra rummages around in his cellar of memories, going back to the year 1967. It was one day in 1967 that he first heard the song as a 13-year-old: He combines goosebumps feeling, pure energy and the power to look ahead with the beat. Nothing about this has changed till this day. However, it’s time to tidy up, to clear out the cellar and dig up the
last 40 years.
The Beat Goes On is situated somewhere between a glamorous rock show, a dance performance, a stand-up comedy act and storytelling. Equipped with objects from Poelstra’s cellar and other things the artist found in various places, brut im Konzerthaus transforms into the basement of the unconscious and the capacity for remembering. Passionately rummaging around in the past is encouraged, as is taking a trip down memory lane or a wander through the present. As long as one is constantly in movement and staying true to Sonny & Cher’s motto “Go for it!”.
