Agata Maszkiewicz

Don Kiewicz & Sancho Waniec

Erstaufführungbrutproduktion

Kiewicz & Waniec are modern incarnations of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Their adventure takes place at a construction site – a place where hard physical labour defines reality. All the hard work gets blended in a cement mixer with the idealism and utopian vision of the modern Quixote by Agata Maszkiewicz. Both the stage landscape as well as the fictional characters in Don Kiewicz’s new adventures consist of construction materials and work tools that are kept in constant motion by the performers – Agata Maszkiewicz and Magdalena Chowaniec – as they fight against monsters or deliver declarations of love. Episodes from the novel mingle with dance scenes without words or actual dialogue. The physical work’s rigour impinges upon the lightness of quixotic idealism. This collision of opposites ultimately yields a tableau displaying solidarity, fairness, community, and the boundaries of madness in society today.

After the premiere in brut, Don Kiewicz & Sancho Waniec will be touring throughout Europe in 2012, showing at the Old Brewery, Poznan, at Vooruit, Ghent, and Beursschouwburg, Brussels.
