Anne Juren & Annie Dorsen

Anne Juren, a French choreographer living in Vienna, and New York director Annie Dorsen mesmerize audiences with their dance performance MAGICAL: a mixture of illusions and citations from the canon of feminist performance art. The consuming gaze onto female bodies gets just as sated as does the childish fascination for the spectacular – a play of images and quotes from famous works of great artist heroines, whereby they don’t always manage to preserve a scrutinising distance. The supposed secrets of women are revealed layer by layer until even the innermost generates surprises. Juren’s body becomes a projection surface for all visionary and sexual fantasies about everything a woman can be: housewife, fighter, victim, mother, and machine.
