“Disarming and straightforward.” Die Presse

SPITZE [Pointe] – an analysis of ballet, the people involved, its hierarchies, the worlds of illusion, its body imagery. Based on Romantic ballet, the emerging en-pointe style in the 19th century, and the subsequent idealisation of the ballerina, Doris Uhlich stages the tough training that leaves many a dancer by the wayside. She developed the idea for dealing with dancing en pointe after her earlier performance und [and] in which older people without any acting or dancing training were the focus of the production. SPITZE doesn’t bother with everyday gestures, but instead specifically targets the codes of classical ballet which have been set in stone for centuries. Three performers – Susanne Kirnbauer, former first soloist with Vienna’s State Opera, Harald Baluch, solo dancer, and Doris Uhlich, who first started dancing en pointe at the age of thirty – meet on stage and move beyond the routine of their usual means of expression and rehearsed stage presences. In SPITZE  they discover new approaches to their own dancing biographies. www.dorisuhlich.at
