Dans Dans should have been Eric De Volder’s first dance performance as artistic director of the theatre group Ceremonia. After his sudden passing, colleague Hendrik Van Doorn made contact with les ballets C de la B in order to be able to realise the project as De Volder would have wanted it. Choreographer Lisi Estaras and dancers Nicolas Vladyslav and Lara Barsacq joined in the project with much enthusiasm and sense of discovery. The four found a common point of departure in their shared desire for originality. Nothing was taken as a matter of course. The smallest gestures and movements were newly reconsidered. For example, children’s games and animal poses alternate with iconographic tableaux vivants. Despite the lack of decoration and music for Dans Dans, the four artists have managed to create an imaginative performance rich in imagery that proves how humorous dance can be.
