THE END is a handcrafted film montage in real time in which Andrea Maurer & Thomas Brandstätter examine the relationship between projection and illusion. With a series of images which they enter into and leave, which they complement, disassemble, twist, turn, and turn upside down, they guide the audience through a showcase-like sequence of experiments. They start at the end and work picture by picture through to the beginning, at which stands the question of time. This black-and-white spectacle ranges from grammatical hocus-pocus to a pop-philosophical treatise on the stretching and compression of the present.
