Gin Müller & Tom Waibel
Melodrom: Melodrama, Telenovela, Rebellion
Gin Müller continues the successful production Who shot the Princess? Boxstop Telenovelas with new research in the areas of melodrama and rebellion. Melodrome is the title of an international theatre, performance, and media project that will be realised in Vienna and Mexico from 2012 to 2013. The connection between melodrama, telenovela, and rebellion in the context of a staged global media world is examined over the course of this one-year project, as well as in the context of images of emotions, gender performances, passionate dialogues, but also the political struggle for recognition. It explains what it is worth fighting for nowadays and how a person is able to keep up his or her passion for the struggle, and whether more is necessary than mere melodramatic evocations in the politics (or hearty politics) in melodrama. This also includes further determination of the possibilities of subversive staging in global networks or public spaces. Participants can actively work toward resolving these issues as part of a seminar with the same title and a concluding presentation at the Institute for Theatre, Film, and Media Science at the University of Vienna.
Dates at the Institute for Theatre, Film, and Media Sciences, University of Vienna, Jura Soyfer Hall: 15 May, 5:00 to 8:00 pm • 10 June, 1:00 to 6:00 pm • 14 June, 3:00 to 7:00 pm
