Die Rabtaldirndln

SCHWARZE WOLLE – Exerzitien mit den Rabtaldirndln

Erstaufführungbrutproduktion

“The Rabtaldirndln – a hope for the future.” Der Standard

In a country like Austria, what are there for religion-free alternatives for the established rites of passage in a person’s life – being born into the world, becoming an adult, marriage, and death? The Rabtaldirndln say: there aren’t any, or at least no reasonable ones. And that’s because the big religions have repeatedly taken up successful local rituals and claimed them as their own. What remains for a non-believer to do other than to deal with these rites intellectually or to say to oneself ‘I won’t think about it and just participate’? The Rabtaldirndln are now filling this gap and invite the audience to SCHWARZE WOLLE [BLACK WOOL], a sort of pastoral-psychological conclave situation to experience community and threshold states of the Rabtal-inspired ritual. Although increasing numbers of people are leaving churches, the desire for rituals remains unbroken. The Rabtaldirndln have created their own spiritual exercises for non-believers and the unbaptized and an independent ritual world for this evening. You must believe! At least that’s what the Rabtaldirndln believe. And they practice it.
The Rabtaldirndln, who hail from the fictitious Rabtal [Rab Valley] are a theatre combine who mutually search for topics in the field of tension between city and country. They play with illusions and merciless disillusionment, where artistic subject and object coalesce. Principally they perform in formation. Following AUFPLATZEN [RUPTURE], their successful contribution to the 2009 Freischwimmer Festival, their concept album to the fictional production Zielsicher. Der Film zum Album [Unerring. The Film of the Album], and their megalomaniacal life’s work retrospective Berge versetzen [Moving Mountains], the Rabtaldirndln are back at brut with the world premiere of SCHWARZE WOLLE. www.dierabtaldirndln.wordpress.com
