The Ed Sanders Crew is a group of young dancers, musicians, and circus artists. Together they have put together a remake of their hit performance Café Ed Sanders: a show located between a rock concert and dance performance, but this time tailored to young children.
Somewhere below, somewhere behind, and somewhere in-between – in the big cities, villages, financial districts, war zones – a little bit of space is still available: a place where you can dream of your own home, and that’s where we live. The outside world doesn’t exist here. We’re throwing a huge party. Come! Find us and be a part of it! The main topic in Droomstad [Dream City] is the carnival. That’s where you experience the thrills of free fall and full speed, excitement, and exhilaration. It is a place where boredom is superfluous, where you can forget your worries and fears, where you can feel free. De Dansers have put together a ‘best of’ dance performance with the most exciting, most magical, and most rollercoaster-like dance that they have to offer. People whirl around, hats fly, melodies race past. A huge playground of encounters, of temptation, of courtship, and of struggle – with both dreamed up and invented rules. Everyone wants to escape from reality occasionally. In Droomstad you can – for a short time.
The performance’s name is based on the photo project Dream City by Fotodok, a new centre for documentary photography in Utrecht (NL).
