Gérald Kurdian
1999
Snippets from the 48 episodes of the TV series Space: 1999 from the 1970s are the occasion for the one-man show by French performer, songwriter, and radio artist Gérald Kurdian. Between fragments of tango and mambo dances, love chansons, and self-written songs, Kurdian narrates the action of a science fiction film that has yet to be realised and invariably assumes all the roles and figures himself. The movers and shakers of the music industry appear: Kurdian carries out a smooth transformation from performer to composer, from graphic designer to video-clip director and artistic manager. He moves confidently in a setting of technical apparatuses, musical instruments and slide-show equipment. With his lo-fi arrangements and minimalistic actions, the musical do-it-yourselfer Kurdian sings praises for the charm of the unfinished as the true utopia.
