VIS Expanded Cinema: Screensessions

If you liked the Liegekino during the VIS Vienna Independent Shorts festival, you’re going to love brut’s Screensessions; Vienna’s short-film festival is celebrating its tenth anniversary on 1 June with two concerts, DJs and the best Austrian and international music videos of recent years. The screens hanging on the ceiling are part of the ‘Expanded Cinema’ idea that VIS has been sounding out for years with new presentation forms for films outside of the cinema auditorium. Music videos, long since declared dead, have been recovering nicely and today – beyond pure band marketing – are more than ever a perfect field for experimentation with the symbiosis of image and sound.
The comeback of the Screensessions, a combination of music video and live concert, is also going ‘expanded’: with several screenings, musical acts, and an awards ceremony – all on one wonderfully long evening. http://www.viennashorts.com/
