Zachary Oberzan

Tell Me Love Is Real

Österreichische Erstaufführung

In the winter of the year 2012 on the West Coast of the US, two famous personalities were waiting in their hotel rooms to make their appearances. In a bizarre coincidence, both overdosed on Xanax that evening. Whitney Houston ended up dying because of it. The author of this play, however, survived, and embarked on a path of recovery in a psychiatric clinic.
In Tell Me Love Is Real, Zachary Oberzan takes a tragicomic approach to the existential questions which worried him after this experience. Looking for a rescuing hero who can guide him on his way, Oberzan brings Buddy Holly, Amelia Earhart, Bruce Lee and Serge Gainsbourg back from the dead on stage and also begs his audience for assistance. In response to his despair he finally discovers – how could it be otherwise – love.

Zachary Oberzan, an American performance artist, filmmaker and musician, is back in brut for the third time with Tell Me Love Is Real. Oberzan’s humorous works skilfully play with fictive and autobiographical elements. After having spent a number of years as part of the New York theatre company Nature Theatre of Oklahoma, Oberzan now works as a solo artist and recently toured the world with his play Your brother. Remember?, which also showed in brut in 2011. www.zacharyoberzan.com
