Theater im Bahnhof
DIE MÜTTER
DIE MÜTTER is a scary and funny chamber drama about feminist role models, fears of the future, guilty consciences and the desire to understand the next generation by trying to imitate it mimetically. The Graz Ensemble Theater im Bahnhof performers count on unrestrained self-discovery and target in their new piece their roles as mothers and their adolescent offspring. They do away with the socially and subjectively decreed assumption that being a mother per se always has to be and must be fulfilling, and they present themselves as women who explore, fight, despair and who – after a long expedition into the unknown – are confronted with the question: mission completed?
From conversations which a cultural anthropologist conducted with the the performers, their mothers and their children about adolescence and hopes and fears concerning the future, Theater im Bahnhof constructs a personal and sociopolitical evening. A pars pro toto for the generation of mothers today.
The Graz Theater im Bahnhof is the biggest professional free theatre ensemble in Austria. It has appeared in brut with many plays, most recently in 2011 with TIME TO GET READY FOR LOVE. www.theater-im-bahnhof.com
