Kuro Tanino - Die Kiste im Baumstamm
A young man is desperately struggling with his study assignments. Again and again, his thoughts stray from all the figures and formulas. When his father berates him for his ineffectuality, he hides in a cupboard and in this way opens the magic door to a parallel plane, his very own alternative world made of poetry and fantasy.
Tokyo-born psychoanalyst, author and director Kuro Tanino is the scion of a family of physicians but after studying medicine and psychiatry as expected by his family decided for a career in the theatre: ≫Instead of looking seriously after my patients, I was rather fascinated by their problems.≪ For Box in the Big Trunk, Kuro Tanino subjected himself to self-analysis in order to ≫become even more confident with my own cowardice.≪ His newfound perceptions translated into a dizzying yet profound grotesque.
In a restaurant in Purgatory, the protagonist is served a cuckoo skeleton, a giant beetle and an alarm clock. Together with a sheep and a pig, he ponders the problems of highly complex conundrums: if God and the Devil are pitched against each other on an infinite chessboard and the Devil is allowed to gobble up one square after every move – can God ever win?
