Wofür es sich zu leben lohnt
In a culture that considers itself hedonistic, more and more pleasures are getting their teeth pulled: beer without the alcohol, whipped cream without fat, bars without tobacco, football without swearing and long-distance travels without a comprehensive body check. Could it be that something got mixed up here? That in support of naked survival we’re abandoning everything that makes life worth living in the first place? Shouldn’t we fear a bad life more than death itself?
Robert Pfaller is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, among other institutions. His latest publications: Das schmutzige Heilige und die reine Vernunft. Symptome der Gegenwartskultur (Fischer, 2008) and Ästhetik der Interpassivität (philo fine arts, 2009)
