Cuqui Jerez

Crocodiles and Alligators

Erstaufführungbrutproduktion

“For a long time she was regarded as an insider’s tip, meanwhile she is touring through Europe as a beacon of hope for conceptual stage art.” Die Zeit

Cuqui Jerez always begins by posing philosophical questions about time and space. Searching for the right form in order to set Kant’s longstanding issues into scene, the Spanish concept artist never loses sight of her laughter and humour and develops a unique choreographic language with playful lightness. She develops easy and charming concepts through the targeted use of the body as a tool, the learned manipulation of time and space, and the play with the expectations of the audience, all of which come across as very thoroughly elaborated and intelligent. In Crocodiles and Alligators Jerez continues her previous works and reflects on the conditions of the performance as such, the stage, and everything behind it. Dancing between variation, contrast, diversity, and uniqueness, Crocodiles and Alligators provides the audience with new impulses with regard to concept art and guarantees exhilarating irritations.
