MESSER-MORD: KLINGE STECKTE NOCH IN DER BRUST (NACH BÜCHNERS „WOYZECK“)
In MESSER-MORD: KLINGE STECKTE NOCH IN DER BRUST (NACH BÜCHNERS „WOYZECK“)[MURDER BY KNIFE: BLADE STILL STUCK IN THE CHEST (BASED ON BÜCHNER’S “WOYZECK”] the God’s Entertainment Viennese performance collective addresses the point of making the decision to commit a crime that is subsequently really carried out. While public interest in a crime decreases as soon as the committers are convicted, God’s Entertainment takes the stories further. Working with ex-convicts from Berlin and Vienna who are currently being resocialized, God’s Entertainment takes the ending of Georg Büchner’s drama fragment Woyzeck seriously and directly aims at the criminal aspect of the soldier Woyzeck murdering his lover, Marie. God’s Entertainment develops a tableau of the causes of human failure based on this. In the further development of the production that premiered in December 2011 in Hebbel am Ufer – HAU, Berlin, collages of the ex-convicts’ lives are created over the course of the evening – from the crime, through imprisonment, and on to resocialization. Current media reports about murders interrupt the performance flow and during the evening the audience is questioned about its ideas of rights and morals as well as about Georg Büchner himself and his Woyzeck. With its new piece God’s Entertainment balances on the knife’s edge of righteousness separating the people from the crime.
