Mariano Pensotti - Cineastas (Filmemacher)
He invented stories and landed in realityin the process, opined Jean-Luc Godard once, “but reality leads us back to fiction”. Andrei Tarkowski saw in cinema the ultimate human invention for conserving time, and Ingmar Bergman believed: “Only the fleeting remains.” Mariano Pensotti, one of Argentina’s most interesting young playwrights and directors, wrote and directed a play about four filmmakers in Buenos Aires: about the films they work on for a year, about the lives that the live during this time and about the city in which all these life and film stories take place and are reflected. Five actors in numerous roles tell all of this simultaneously, stage the four times two stories as if it was a split screen – virtuoso film–theatre without any use of video or film. While theatre per se is a fleeting art, the filmmakers want to at least record their time and experiences for eternity. The only thing that remains is what we do – and who we are ceases to be? How much of our personality is based on the fiction from books, film, and television we consume?
