Rimini Protokoll (Kaegi/Karrenbauer)

Remote Wien

Österreichische Erstaufführung

Remote Wien is a journey through the city. A soundtrack to parks, subway stations, playgrounds, shopping malls, retirement homes. A soundtrack for a swarm of 50 individuals. These people, who have never met each other before, go on a virtual scavenger hunt playing online games. In Remote Wien just such a swarm sets out into the real city with radio headphones. They are guided by an artificial voice as you might recognise from GPS navigation systems or airports. Film music and sound recordings add sound to the urban landscape along the way. This encounter with this artificial intelligence entices the horde to self-experiment. Could this be the beginning of a movement? The journey through the city becomes a collective film. And while the artificial intelligence observes human behaviour from a distance of one foreign to the species, its voice somehow sounds ever more familiar with every step. The project has taken place in Berlin, Hanover, Lisbon and Avignon, among other cities. Each new location-specific version builds upon the dramaturgy of the previous city, searches for new locations in the next city and continues writing the piece. www.rimini-protokoll.de
