HOLIDAY ON STAGE - last days of luxury
“With swift dialogues and clever playing with quotes, Schick and Todorović guarantee an entertaining evening on stage!” Freiburger Nachrichten
This maxim still applies on the last two days of the year 2013: “Nothing is more successful than success!” In HOLIDAY ON STAGE, performers Martin Schick and Damir Todorović take this recipe to roll out the red carpet in front of brut and to be cheered as successful star artists by the audience. HOLIDAY ON STAGE is a subversive and provocative farce about Western society and its art scene, a mix of entertainment, shocking facts and human fate.
The two performers Martin Schick and Damir Todorović embark on a research journey into a luxurious artist’s existence, into a world where attention is the highest good and absolutely everyone wants to be an artist. On their path through glamour and prominence, the two of them humorously play with clichés and the aesthetics of our everyday life, the mechanisms of the market and the seductive forces and strategies of late-stage capitalism. They ask about the emptiness that luxury and beauty leave behind, about how the elites separate themselves from the rest of the world and their legitimacy, and about the losers in our society.
Martin Schick previously addressed the art scene’s own capitalist sell-out together with Laura Kalauz in brut in his piece CMMN SNS PRJCT seen as part of the Freischwimmer Festival 2011. HOLIDAY ON STAGE is the first cooperation between the Swiss performance artist and Serbian actor Damir Todorović. www.martinschick.com
