PARAMOUNT MOVEMENT

Voraufführungbrutproduktion

Outbreaks of extremely bizarre dancing were repeatedly documented in Europe between the 14th and 17th centuries, where individuals and masses of people were sent into ecstasies for days, weeks and months at a time. Dance back then was most probably a physical reaction to an overload of stress caused by precarious social and political conditions. In essence, these dance epidemic phenomenon defy all explanation. Lea Martini and Rodrigo Sobarzo de Larraechea take up exactly this aspect and deal with dance as an irrational reaction to events surpassing the human capacity of understanding in their play PARAMOUNT MOVEMENT. Artistic floods, carpet bombing, deep-sea drilling, and atomic explosions – in view of serious human interventions into the environment, the body becomes a resonance chamber of immeasurable exorbitance. What story can bodies tell in paramount movement about something that is incomprehensible?

The two performers want to catch fire and expose themselves to something enormous. On a fine line between daydream and reality, PARAMOUNT MOVEMENT explodes the borders of the imaginable and overwhelms the audience with an insatiable desire for intensity and physicality.
