Europe in Motion
Together with the partners Bimeras (Istanbul), Dance4 (Nottingham) and imagetanz, springdance (Utrecht) developed a European exchange programme for young choreographers and performers. The programme consists of five exchange phases whereby each partner will be hosting a phase between 2011 and 2012 with about ten participating artists.
From 2 to 11 March it’s Vienna’s turn. Accompanied by British choreographer and performer Jonathan Burrows and Vienna-based visual artist Gerald Nestler, who undertook ‘field research‘ as a stock market broker and trader in the 1990s, the participants’ works and future plans are considered together. Europe in Motion in Vienna particularly explores how the financial-economic complex (increasingly determined by algorithms) exerts a lasting influence on the processes of everyday life. The exchange programme and the subsequent presentation – in the form of a performance – attempt to find a new interpretation of omnipresent terms and practices whose meanings today are essentially defined by economic aspects (for example: “speculation”, “credit”, “agency”, “leverage”), and thus to work out suggestions for recovering the potential for actions in the sense of a “Speech Act Algorithm” with respect to economic primacy (“from transaction to action”). www.friendsandart.at/kunstraum
